The short answer
What is included
Baseboards, casing, shelving, and the finish carpentry too small for a contractor to book. I am Brody, I do the work myself, and I cover Langley, Surrey, White Rock, Aldergrove, Abbotsford, and Cloverdale. Cost starts at the $200 minimum per job, and you get the price in a written estimate before I start.
Finish carpentry is judged on the joints, and joints in an older house are never a matter of cutting to 45 degrees. Walls lean, floors run out, and corners are rarely square, so trim gets fitted to the room that exists rather than the room on paper. I do baseboards, door and window casing, shelving, closet build-outs, and the trim repairs left behind by flooring jobs and past renovations. This is also the lane for the work that is genuinely too small for a contractor to schedule: one run of baseboard, a set of floating shelves that has to hit studs, a chewed-up corner that needs a piece let in rather than filled with putty.

What people ask about carpentry & trim
My corners are not square and the last trim job showed it. Can that be fixed?
Yes, and it is most of the craft. A mitre cut at 45 degrees only closes if the corner is 90, which in a settled house it usually is not. I set the angle off the actual corner and scribe where the wall runs out, which is the difference between a joint that closes tight and one that opens up a season later.
Do you supply the trim or should I buy it?
Either. If you have a profile you want matched, send me a photo and a piece if you can spare one, because older profiles are often no longer stocked and finding the nearest match is part of the job. If you would rather I source it, I will quote the material with the labour so you can see both.
Can you hang shelves that will actually hold weight?
That is the whole question, and it comes down to what is behind the drywall. Into studs, a shelf carries real load. Into drywall alone, with anchors rated for it, it carries considerably less, and I will tell you which you have rather than let you find out with books on it. Tell me what is going on the shelf when you send the request.
Do you build cabinets or furniture?
No. Cabinet boxes and furniture are a cabinetmaker's trade with a shop behind it, and pretending otherwise would waste your money. I install, fit, trim, and repair. If a job needs a built piece, I will say so early rather than three days in.

Nothing in an older house is square, so I price the fitting, not the cutting.
