The short answer

What is included

Sticking doors, dropped hinges, dead pocket doors, and locks that need to actually lock. I am Brody, I do the work myself, and I cover Langley, Surrey, White Rock, Aldergrove, Abbotsford, and Cloverdale. Cost starts at the $200 minimum per job, and you get the price in a written estimate before I start.

A door that catches, drags, or has to be lifted to close is almost never the door's fault. It is the hinges, the frame, or a house that has settled around an opening that used to be square. I fix the cause rather than planing the edge and calling it done. Sliding and pocket doors get their own attention because the hardware is hidden: rollers, tracks, and guides that have been out of adjustment for years. Locks and deadbolts get installed, rekeyed where the hardware allows, and aligned so the bolt throws fully instead of catching the strike plate. Interior and exterior doors, across Langley, Surrey, White Rock, Aldergrove, Abbotsford, and Cloverdale.

What people ask about doors & locks

  • My door only sticks in winter. Is it worth fixing?

Yes, and seasonal sticking usually tells me what is wrong before I arrive. A door that binds only in the wet months is moving with humidity, which points at the slab or the frame rather than the hinges. That is a different repair from a door that has sagged year-round, and the fix lasts longer than shaving the edge, which only works until the wood dries out again.

  • Can pocket doors be fixed without opening the wall?

Often, but not always, and I will not promise either before I look. A lot of pocket door problems are the rollers or the track, and on many builds those can be reached through the opening once the trim and door stop come off. If the track itself is bent or the header has dropped, that means opening drywall, and I tell you which one you are looking at before any work starts.

  • Can you rekey my locks so they match?

On hardware that supports it, yes. Many common residential locksets can be rekeyed to one key so you carry fewer, and where the hardware does not allow it I will say so and quote matched replacements instead. Anything involving a safe, a commercial master system, or a car is locksmith work and I will point you at one.

  • The deadbolt does not line up with the hole. Is that a big job?

Usually not. A bolt that will not throw fully is almost always a strike plate that has moved as the frame settled, and moving and reinforcing the plate fixes it properly. A bolt that only half-engages is also a real security gap rather than an annoyance, which is worth knowing if you have been shouldering the door closed for months.
