Trim in Cloverdale is a study in two eras sitting side by side. The older detached homes near the town centre carry profiles that are no longer made, settled framing, and floors with a gentle roll, so every piece gets fitted rather than cut to a setting. Clayton Heights is the opposite: square rooms, current profiles, and townhouses that want shelving, closet systems, and the finish work that got rushed at handover. West Cloverdale family homes fall between them, and out toward Hazelwood the requests widen to include shop shelving and heavier built work. I am next door in Langley, so this is a short trip, which matters for jobs that need a follow-up visit for paint-ready filling or a second fitting. On a Cloverdale trim job the first two things I do are check the corner angle and lay a straightedge on the floor, because those readings differ sharply between the core and Clayton Heights. In an older town centre house it is scribing and adjusting, piece by piece. In a Clayton Heights townhouse it is precision and finish, cutting to one setting and spending the time on tight joints and clean filling instead. Shelving anywhere begins with finding the studs, because that decides what is possible before anyone talks about how it should look.
Length of run and number of corners drive this, not square footage. A long straight wall goes quickly; a room with five corners, a bulkhead, and a stair skirt is a different day's work at the same nominal footage. You approve a written number before I pick up a tool in Cloverdale.

Close, and I will be honest about where a match stops being invisible. Those profiles are usually out of production, so I find the nearest available and put the joins where you do not look. A photo straight down the end of the profile with a tape across it tells me most of what I need.
Cloverdale is one of my shortest drives, so it is less awkward here than most places, but the minimum still applies per job. If you can find two or three other small items while you are looking at that baseboard, the visit works considerably harder for you.
